Cardboard tubes are an inexpensive craft supply, and one which we always seem to have on hand.
Recently we had fun creating our very own cardboard tube bugs to decorate our play area.
First we made cardboard tube butterflies, using the cardboard tubes for bodies. I cut wings out of construction paper for my daughter to decorate and tape onto the bodies. Then we stuck pipe cleaners into little holes at the top for antennae.
After making a few butterflies we decided to try making cardboard tube bumble bees.
We used a permanent marker to draw circles around the toilet paper tube for stripes. My daughter decided to decorate the yellow construction paper wings before attaching them. After we added a couple pipe cleaner antennae, you could almost hear them buzzing!
We hung our bugs up from the rafters in the downstairs play area. Any time we have friends over, it’s one of the first things they notice.
And the rest of our toilet paper tubes? I’ve got a few more saved up, just waiting for another great use.
