There is something so sweet when it comes to children making a small gift to give someone they care about.
February is the perfect time for kids Valentine’s Day crafts and crafting homemade gifts for Valentine’s Day.
This super simple pom-pom Love Bug craft makes a cute gift for family members and friends.
We had so much fun making our pet rocks, that I wanted to do something similar for Valentine’s Day.
I started picturing little “love bugs” with craft foam wings added to our pet rock design. But when I started gathering google eyes and craft foam squares, I came across a few big pom-poms, and my vision of love bugs became a lot more cuddly.
These fuzzy bugs are fun to make with the kids.

Affiliate links have been provided below. See my full disclosure for more details.
Materials Needed:
- Assorted Pom-Poms
- Craft Foam Hearts
- Wiggly Eyes
- Pipe Cleaners
- Hot Glue Gun
To make craft time go more smoothly, especially when working with preschoolers, I suggest spreading all the items out on a large cookie tray.
To create your love bug, hot glue a large pom-pom onto a craft foam heart. The heart will be the bug’s feet.
Glue on wiggly eyes and add pieces of pipe cleaner on the top of the pom-pom for antennae.
Add another heart or two to the bug’s back as wings.
If you are doing this craft with preschoolers, you can have them assemble the pieces and decide what will be glued on and where. Then you can call them over to the hot glue gun area one at a time. This helps avoid burnt little fingers.
Once the kids are finished crafting, they can add a little note to go with their little bugs.
This simple Love Bugs craft is fun to make and is sure to get a few smiles when given as a gift.

Adorable! I don’t own a glue gun and now I think my kids are deprived. Sigh.

Yes, I do remember little pom-pom looking things with sticky feet when I was younger. They kind of inspired me on this. 🙂

How did you get the pipe cleaners to stay? I couldn’t figure out how to get mine into the pom.
OneMommy says
Hot glue. I put a generous dab of hot glue onto the pom and then pushed the pipe cleaner into it.
