Trust

Trust.

As babies it is easy to trust.  We learn to vocalize our needs and we trust that they will be met.  That trust continues as children.

But at some point, at some point our ability to trust changes.

Someone hurts us.

We learn to be careful with who we put our trust in.

And the kicker?

While the time it takes to trust someone may be long, that trust can be torn down in moments.

And once that trust is broken?what to do when trust is broken

It takes even longer to build it back.

And just when you think you trust that person again, there are times when you will find yourself doubting.

And prayer is all that keeps you going.

  1. It is so hard to go back to trusting someone after it’s been broken.

    1. Very difficult when it is someone close to you. One of those times I wish there was an easier answer to.

  2. I was always careful with who I fully trusted (I have different levels of trust), but yes as I get older it does take more for me to trust somebody. I am one that finds it impossible to forget when somebody breaks my trust. I forgive so that I can move on and I am not one to hold a grudge, but I am not sure that I could trust somebody again if they broke my trust. I mean they would really have to do something wrong tho.

    1. Forgiving someone is so different from trusting again. Like I said in the post, it seems just when I think I trust them again — something so simple will make me doubt that trust. Wish there was an easy answer.

  3. What’s even more hurtful is when those people close to our heart are the ones who have broken that trust.

    1. Yes, so very true. I think those are the ones that hurt the most and take the longest to heal.

  4. Trust is definitely one of those things that once broken can take a long time to restore. I’ve totally been there, and recently too. Hope things are well with you though.

    1. It has been some time with me, but the trust is still a work in progress.
I hope things are well with you, too.

  5. Oh so true!!!!

  6. Ah yes… I get it. Trust is one of the most valued and difficult things to come by… prayer definitely is a major component to it!

    1. I struggle with whether or not to let the person in question know that my trust is still not fully there — I know the guilt they feel already.

  8. Trust is so difficult to rebuild in a person, especially if that person has repeatedly broken your trust. Prayer is the first step to healing.

    1. So true — with the Lord all things are possible…

  9. I have had this happen to me. I found that even though it hurt the person with whom the trust was broken, they needed to hear my feelings on the matter. This person was able to see that their actions had affected me and my feelings toward them. If this person is a close friend or spouse they will want to work with you on ways to develop trust again.

    1. We have talked about it, and I thought I was past the past….but I guess not. You are right, we need to talk again.
