Dandelion days.
A sea of golden yellows dots the yard; they seem to have popped up over night. Having just learned, “April showers bring May flowers,” my son repeats the phrase to himself as he explores each flower.
For that is what they are to him: flowers.
He hurries to bring me one, proud to be giving Mommy the flower.
And I treasure it.
As he races to collect more, I think about how fast this time will pass.
Soon the yellow flower heads will turn white, and then they will disappear. After a while there will only be the greens left.
And, all too soon, my son will stop bringing Mommy dandelions. He will see them as weeds, or maybe he won’t even notice them at all.
One day he will be bringing another girl flowers, forgetting all about those days long ago where Mommy was his number one to bring flowers to.
And so I treasure each and every yellow flower, carefully placing them in water, trying to make them last as long as I can. And they are more beautiful to me than any vase of roses ever was.

Looking for a simple craft to celebrate all those spring flowers? How about a cupcake flower or a toilet paper tube flower?

This is a really nice piece — something to hold on and show him 10 years down the road. I still look at dandelions as flowers. There’s something special to me about a field full of them. Stopping by via the comment promise hop.

I never thought about the beauty of dandelions until my little ones showed me their magic. I don’t think I’ll ever see them the same way again.

I love when my girls bring me flowers from our yard and tell me that they thought I would love it. We make sure that the weeds and flowers in our yard are for picking and sharing.
OneMommy says
I’m glad you have your own little bouquet makers! 🙂
I need to plant some more bulbs that will come up next spring so we have plenty to choose from as the years go by.

How precious. I remember those days fondly. Children express their love in the simplest ways.
Beautiful post.

They do; that’s what makes it all the sweeter.

I don’t have kids of my own yet, but the little boy I nanny is the same way with bringing me dandelions. So so sweet. 🙂

How precious..I love it when my boys bring me flowers, even if they are the little ones growing on the weeds. They too will be taking flowers to other girls some time in the future. For now I’m glad they’re for me.

Awww! I so know how you feel in the post! When my kiddos bring me those dandelions, I get all misty-eyed. I think thoughts so very much like you! My prayer is that when they look on dandelions years from now, they will remember how much I loved getting them from them and think of me and how much I love them and visa versa. The first time they get them from their kiddos, they will understand this post in a whole new way, too.
Thanks for linking this up to our Spring Fling link-up.

Never thought about what they make think when they see them as adults. You are right, I hope they remember how much I loved getting them and putting them in water like they were the most prized flowers.

I received my first dandelion of the season the other day. I love that they see them as flowers. I will always think of them as that, too. 🙂

What a sweet post and a sweet boy. We are about to have a son in a little over a month. And I haven’t thought about the fact that he’ll one day give flowers to another girl. I won’t be the special lady in his life forever. Sad 🙁 BUUUT I’ve got a good 15+ years until then. 🙂
OneMommy says
Congrats on your soon to be little bundle of joy! I like to say the boys are really for the mommas! 🙂
