If you’ve been a regular reader here, you know that until recently I always had a Thankful Thursday post. While I still share what I’m thankful for each week on the Facebook Page, I’ve decided not to stress about a weekly commitment here on the blog.
But this week, Mama Kat’s prompt to write about something you’re thankful for came at just the perfect time.
I’ve been dealing with sick kids. The house is a mess. (When is it not???) No one seems to want to eat what I cook for dinner. I’ve got a list of things I want/need done a mile long.
Everyone’s been tired, cranky. I yelled at the four-year-old. I mean really yelled.
It’s been a week of not feeling good enough, just trying to make it to the next day. I’m struggling.
Tuesday was a low point. And I went to bed dreading having to get up and do it all again the next day. Having to face my parents when they came up as planned the next day.
And then, as I forced a smile on my face, and pretended everything was okay while they visited, my husband walked through the door.
In the middle of the day.
Totally unannounced.
My first thoughts? Is he sick too? Did something happen at work?
I jumped straight to the negative. That’s where my mind has been focused lately.
I never thought that he’d just come home to surprise me, because he knew I’d had a rough couple days.
What am I thankful for? My husband.
Sometimes I lock my feelings away, make the mistake of not opening up to him, not telling him what’s on my mind. I make the mistake of thinking I’m alone in this.
And then he does something like this.
And I know he is there if I just reach out.

Isn’t it great when they know that we need them and there they are? I blogged about my husband today also!

Sometimes the people we need wind up in our lives and just know what we need.

What a sweet way to be blessed by your husband. Man, those days to get through can be so tough, and a surprise like that rose can make a huge difference. I shared about my son’s Thankful Leaf. =)

What a catch you have there with your husband. So very, very thoughtful. It’s so tough being a parent some days and there are times when you feel so unappreciated. It’s like my one friend told me, “No one ever thanks you for cleaning the toilets.” We had a good laugh about that, but what mother wouldn’t understand this? I hope your children are feeling better and that you find time to just breathe.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another… Yep, never get thanked for cleaning toilets around here, either. Trying to remember what is truly important this week.

OH HOW I LOVE THIS!!!! I love your authentic pouring out of your mama heart that every single mom can relate to! Those hard hard days… that seem to go on sometimes forever.
And I am SO grateful you have a supportive and incredible wonderful hubs to be there, in it with you- with open arms and light- when you need it most.
Beautiful!

Why can’t the great days be the ones that seem to last forever? 🙂

Oh my gosh! What a guy!! Taking care of so many people can definitely be exhausting. You’re lucky to have a man that understands that and he’s lucky to have a wife willing to work as hard as you do!

Think he’ll spring for a trip to the spa?? 😉
