One of our favorite things during the summer is the awesome summer reading program at the library. (It’s one of those free things to do with kids this summer!)
This year’s theme? It all had to do with night time animals, sounds, etc. And you know my kids couldn’t wait until the day they brought the bats!
Peanut got to help demonstrate the size of the largest bat – who has a wing-span close to 3 ft.
And then they got to get a picture with one of the Egyptian Fruit Bats. Evidently bats rank higher than the Easter Bunny or Ronald McDonald because Monkey refused pictures with both of them, but really wanted his picture with the bats! (Don’t you just love big sister’s face there?)
What summer fun have your kids had that they really looked forward to?

The library is an excellent place for children and summer reading programs are great. Thanks for sharing your experience and pictures. I love the last one. Who knew a bat would rank higher than the Easter Bunny or Ronald McDonald?
OneMommy says
LOL – seriously! I would have gone with the bunny or Ronald any day over a bat…. Maybe if we sit a critter on Santa he will be more willing this year to take his picture with him…

I don’t think I’d have let anyone put that thing on me!
OneMommy says
Yeah, me neither; she really wanted her picture with it, but when my camera took the picture she was making such a funny face!

My guy would want a picture too!
OneMommy says
I unfortunately didn’t realize mine would be upset when we left the line that the bat wasn’t on HIS shoulder. Next time I will do each of their pics separately, even if it does take a little more time…

Yes, I do love of big sister’s face. My children have been looking forward to swimming in the pool at our local Y, the beach, and going to the park. Thanks for sharing!! 🙂

Swimming has a been a big hit here this year…. Hoping to get them both in swim lessons this fall at the Y!

Did they get to read Stellaluna? It’s a sweet, beautifully illustrated kids’ book about a fruit bat. I read it to my kids lots when they were little. If yours haven’t seen it, look for it at your library.
OneMommy says
No, we haven’t read that one! But my son keeps talking about fruit bats ever since then, so we will definitely have to look for it on our next library triip!
OneMommy says
She LOVES her animals! 🙂

Interesting. I’m sure I’d make the same face as your daughter if I were looking at bats.
