February is perfect for crafting with the kids. There are so many fun winter and Valentine crafts to fill those long, cold winter days.
When it comes to kids Valentine’s Day crafts, heart crafts are always very popular.
You can use cut out paper hearts to make all kinds of fun animals, including this adorable heart cat craft.
This simple heart craft is a fun Valentine’s Day craft for kids.
It would also be a fun cat craft for any time of the year.
Heart Cat — Simple Heart Craft
Materials Needed:
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
For toddlers and young preschoolers you may want to have the pieces cut out already.
Older preschoolers can work on scissor skills by cutting out their own hearts. You can simply draw the shapes for them to cut out.
And, of course, older children will have fun folding the paper and cutting out their own hearts for this craft.
For each cat craft you will need to cut out:
- One large heart for the body
- One smaller heart for the head
- Three small hearts for the eyes and nose
- Two triangles for ears
- A tail
Turn the large heart upside down and glue the slightly smaller heart on top for the cat’s head.
Glue on the triangle ears, heart eyes and nose.
Finally, glue the tail onto the large heart body.
Once your child has their cat glued together, they can use crayons to add details like a mouth, whiskers, toes, etc.
This heart cat craft is fun for kids to make. They may also want to try making a few other heart animals.

You’ll be so proud of me!!!! Ellie and I got her Valentines done for school. I used an old map to cut out the hearts. We wrote, “Valentine, You’re a trip!” on each one. She wrote the to and from on the back. Very cute…. especially since I used a county map — some kids might find their road 🙂
I do think it’s a bit funny that she didn’t know what “you’re a trip” means — puns are a little over the heads of first graders — but parents might actually smile as they go through them.
And we did make a luggage bag box for her. I’ll post pics tomorrow!!! Today’s post is dedicated to my hubby!

I love puns! You’re right, they don’t seem to get them at that age… I forget that and sometimes use them with my 4 year old, who looks at me like I’m crazy when I laugh.
I love the idea of a map and “you’re a trip” – how creative!
Can’t wait to see her luggage bag box!

I am going to try the flower. My daughter is 2 and I am so excited to get to do more crafts with her this year.

I hope she enjoys it as much as mine did! My little girl made a garden with 3 flowers on her paper. My 2 year old’s wasn’t perfect, but it was perfectly his!

Adorable! It’s been a long time since my girls were that small, but we still love to make things together. 🙂 Being a stay at home mom is the best job in the world. 🙂

Thanks! I think both crafts could work with older kids; heck, they could even cut the hearts themselves maybe.
Being a SAHM definitely is a wonderful job. 🙂

Oh how I miss my girls being younger. I never thought of the cat! We have made the flower before and I am sure a few others but they would’ve loved making that cat. So much fun!

Yes, I’ve seen the flower a few times, always a cute little craft. I actually saw something similar to the cat in a craft book at the library one day while I was there with the kids.

Love these! I used to love to do crafts w/my kids, but they are grown men, attending college out of state now. I know they look back on those times with fond memories. You’re creating beautiful memories with your children!

I hope so. I don’t have many memories of doing crafts with my mom; I’d like to think they will remember our crafting days when they are older… Hopefullly with good memories attached!

such a sweet craft. mine are too old for this anymore, but my daughter’s begun to sew so I look forward to all sorts of new adventures. The flower does give me an idea for a spring cake, though…
peace and good

These are so cute. I remember our son doing these projects when he was little. He was in a “Mommy & Me” program with Grandma while I was still working full time. I am not a crafty chick, so doing these things don’t even cross my mind. I need to do them with our daughter! Thanks for the reminder 🙂

I guess the kids’ crafts are a way for me to stay in touch with some of my craftiness, lol. Never thought of it that way before. There is so much to do each day, it’s easy to set crafting time aside, but it really is beneficial to both kid and mommy alike. Hope you enjoy a few fun crafts with your little girl soon!
