I am thankful every day for the gift of parenthood. Being a mother is a blessing, and this Thankful Thursday, with Mother’s Day just days away, it is what I am most thankful for.
So, just what is being a mother all about?
Love like you never felt the moment your eyes see the squirming newborn they have laid upon your chest.
Thinking the entire time you were pregnant that of course you want to go back to work! And then feeling like your heart is being ripped out of you every Monday when the work week begins again.
Shedding tears in the waiting room when you tell your mother they want you to see a specialist because there may be something wrong with the baby you’re carrying.
Laying awake at night feeling guilty because you lost your temper and vowing to do better the next day.
Getting over your own squeamishness over puke and holding your little one, reassuring them it’s going to be okay, when they wake at 2 a.m. and puke all over their bed.
Not caring that you have cheese-puff finger prints on your shirt or that the only time your heels see the light of day is when your 4.5 year-old wobbles around in them.
Melting every time your toddler says he loves you.
Wanting to hold them close and keep them safe forever, and knowing you have to let them go and explore the world on their own.
Being so proud the first time they use the potty that you call everyone you know to share the news.
What does being a mother mean to you?

Now that my kids are grown and gone, being a mother means watching them make difficult adult decisions with thoughtfulness and consideration. So proud…

You are so right. There is nothing better than when they first use that potty. Happy Mother’s Day.

Motherhood means even though I don’t have the answers and I can’t fix everything that my daughters believe in their hearts that I can. With their belief it just gives me more motivation to just keep trying my best.

To me being a mom means that I no longer only care about myself. It also has made me less judgmental of mom’s. I love the saying, “I was a perfect parent, until I became one”
OneMommy says
So true!
I never heard that saying, but it says it perfectly.
Chelle says
Oh, do I remember. Your post took me on a journey….
Happy Mother’s Day, and thanks for the memories.
Peace and good,
Chelle

I heartily agree with the ability to deal with vomit and snot of another being. I never, ever thought that would be possible for me until motherhood. And a Happy Mother’s Day to you.
OneMommy says
Yes. I’m not perfect at it, but so far (knock on wood) I’ve been able to stomach it.
