My preschoolers love alphabet books. They still talk about the fun we had with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, recreating some of our activities on their own! So when I came across Alphabet Adventure, I just knew they’d love it.
In the book, the lower case letters of the alphabet go on quite an adventure when the letter “i” loses her dot. They have to find it in time to help a little boy at school! The brightly colored pictures are sure to capture you child’s attention as they wait to see what will happen to their alphabet friends.
At one point the letters all go off and come back with an object that stats with their letter. For example, “s” comes back with a star.
We went on our own alphabet scavenger hunt for the alphabet. I lined up our magnetic letters and they started the hunt. To help them organize their efforts, I told each of them a letter to work with as they returned with items.
Once we completed our scavenger hunt, we used our magnetic letters in an alphabet matching game.
Do you have a favorite alphabet book we should check out?

We love alphabet books! Alphabetter by Dan Bar-el is one of my son’s favorites. He also adores The Z Was Zapped by Chris Van Allsburg.

I haven’t heard of either of those…Definitely will have to look for them!

I loved how you matched the lower case letters to the upper case letters! That is a great activity! My preschool has this book, but I never read the whole way through it. I need to do the scavenger hunt with my class!
OneMommy says
Getting them both used to the lower case letters has been my goal the past few months. They love playing games like that to match them up.
I can see where a group of preschoolers may not sit through the whole book…sometimes it helps to paraphrase! 🙂

I would love to do an alphabet scavenger hunt when my son is a bit older 🙂 Great idea!!
OneMommy says
They love just about every scavenger hunt we do, but now that they are getting older it is fun to see what objects they bring for the different letters of the alphabet or if I say I want something that is a certain color or shape.
