Little boys love vehicles. Mine is obsessed with them, which is why I decided we’d turn our home preschool into one full of kids vehicle activities.
The plan? Tons of vehicle learning activities geared towards teaching ABC and number skills.
It’s always good to start at the beginning, so we started with these preschool activities for letter “A.”
Vehicle Themed Preschool Activities for Letter A
To start with we worked on matching up upper and lower case letter “A” using ambulances I had printed out. I had a sheet of 12 ambulances, 6 with capital “A’s” and 6 with lower case “a’s” written on them.
I colored the ambulances so there were 6 matching pairs. For example, 2 capital “A” ambulances that were colored the same, 2 lower case “A’s” colored the same, etc.
First I asked him to match up the colored pairs.
Then I asked him to park all the capital “A” ambulances in one spot and all the lower case ones in another. I was amazed how quickly he was able to do this.
Our next activity worked on counting skills.
Using a 6 sided gaming die, I had him roll and than load that many block “passengers” into the ambulance and drive them to the “hospital” I had set up on the other side of the room.
Once he had done it several times and all the passengers had been transported, he decided he had to do it again. No doubt about it, he had fun with this one!
Don’t you just love it when kids come up with their own fun ideas when it comes to learning?
As a final activity my preschooler wanted me to make a trail of letter “A’s” for the ambulance to follow. Thanks to Post-It notes I was able to make a super quick maze of various letters, where he had to follow the letter “A” to the hospital.

A great idea. I’m sure this will be a great activity for when my son is a little older.

I love that activity he came up with himself! Today is the first day of preschool for me, and this week is “A” week. I’ll have to see if I can find an ambulance on our truck shelf for the kids to play with!

That letter A activity with the post-its on the floor is pure genius. I am totally going to try that with BOTH my boys – letters for the little guy and math problems for the oldest. Thanks so much for linking up to the After School Linky. I’m sharing this at my blog tomorrow for this week’s party. Stop by to check it out!
