Are You a “Do Follow” Blog?

September 9, 2011 by OneMommy

Okay, so we’ve already discussed that I’m not the big techie; in fact, my cell phone is just a cell phone and our Internet is dial-up slow.   But I am proud to say, I’m learning each and every day that I blog!

One thing I learned this week is what it means to be a “Do Follow” blog.  At first I thought it had something to do with following people on GFC or Networked blogs if they followed you.

Boy, was wrong!

Now I could try to be a techie and try to explain it, but that’s not me.  Roughly, most blogs are set up as a “No Follow” blog – meaning that when someone comments on the blog it doesn’t allow search engines to follow their link and help their page rank.

We all want to better our page rank, right?

So commenting on a blog that helps you better your page rank, well, that makes commenting even better than just the basic wonderful reasons people post comments (like the fact they may visit your site, or another reader might see your comment and come to your site and comment, or just social interaction…).

So, once I learned all that, I decided I wanted to help each of my terrific followers who comment on my blog.  After all, if not for you guys, I’d be talking to no one on here!  And, I love my commenters! So, I am happy to say I added a simple plug-in to make my blog a “Do Follow” blog – and commenting here will help your page rank.

Want to know how to go about doing it yourself?  Or, want some better, more techie info. about “Do Follow” blogs?  Check out this site.

And, hey, bring on the comments; it will help your page rank!

I’ve been researching this for a few minutes now, and it looks like using Disqus automatically make my blog a do follow blog. I think! Like you, I sometimes need to take some time to figure out the very technical aspects of blogging.

I learned about it about a year or so after I started on the blog portion of my site and enabled it. I had assumed it was “do follow” as the default setting!

Yes, I just assumed it would be “do follow”, too!
