Birthday Thanks

February 1, 2012 by OneMommy

I don’t know why the arrival of my birthday had me so down this year.  Is it just getting older?  Feeling I haven’t done all I could in those years?  Realizing how fast time really does move?

Whatever the case, I was pretty bummed the days leading up to and the day of my birthday.  And, in fact, I became thankful for the celebration of my birthday.  Not for the old, “It’s better than the alternative…” reason (although, there is that, too….), but because of the following:

  1. Hearing Monkey say, “Happy birthday, Mama,” followed by his kiss on my cheek when he found out it was my birthday, all without prompting.
  2. Yummy cupcakes my best friend brought to McDonald’s when we met with all our kids.  (Yes, I got to celebrate my b.day at McDonald’s!)
  3. The sweet birthday card my husband left on the kitchen table when he went to work in the morning and his marker-scrawled message on the bathroom mirror.
  4. Listening to my husband and his little helper bake my birthday cake from scratch…  I challenge anyone not to at least smile while listening to someone else try to bake with kids helping, “Can I get the eggs out, now, Daddy?”  …followed by… “Did you just give that hunk of chocolate to your brother?  Do you have it all in your mouth at once?  Spit it out!  Spit it all out!”  Good times.

There you have it, my Thankful Thursday for this week.  Now it’s your turn – leave me a comment and tell me, what are you thankful for this week?

    Ohhhhh, sweet friend.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Several birthdays I wondered why I was so down. You are wise to remember the little joys.

And can I just say, I turn 46 next month…. AND LIFE IS BETTER THAN EVER! 🙂

    Love ya!

happy belated birthday! I know as the years go on, they become a day I would like to just pretend isn’t happening. I’m still young in my head even if my body doesn’t cooperate the way it used to!

You’re only as old as you feel – or so they say. Since I celebrated at McDonald’s, maybe I’m younger than I thought! LOL

I hope you had a great birthday! Sure sounds like there was a lot of love for you. As for McD’s, I used to keep my fingers crossed to be invited to a party there when I was little. Those were the coolest!!
I had to crack up picturing your husband cooking with the kids and saying “Spit it all out!”. I’ve overheard that same conversation 😉

McDonald’s b.day’s were great! 🙂 Not too bad to have one celebrated with cupcakes and kids you love as a parent, either.
Yes, I was laughing when I heard them cooking… I could just picture it, and I was thinking about how it was nice that someone else was dealing with it… LOL.

Looks like the birthday girl had some special care and attention for her birthday. Seems to me that’s the right recipe to brighten the mood!
    Happy Birthday!
