Christmas Crocodile Craft

I love doing crafts and activities to go with our favorite books.

Years ago, before we even had kids, my husband found this crazy book about a family who gets a crocodile for Christmas.  It became one of our favorite Christmas books to read with the kids and it inspired a fun kids Christmas craft.

This Christmas Crocodile craft is a fun craft your child will love.

We did this craft to go with the book The Christmas Crocodile.  It is one of our favorite Christmas books for kids.

The Christmas Crocodile, by Bonny Becker, tells of a crocodile that didn’t mean to be bad, not really…but somehow along the way he eats the Christmas ham, most of the presents, and even the Christmas tree.

The story has my kids giggling every time we read it.   (And I love the twist at the end!)

Even if you’ve never read the book, this craft is fun to make.

Christmas Crocodile Craft

The base of our crocodile is a paper plate, which the kids had fun coloring a bright green color.

Once they had their plates colored, we hot glued two holders from the bottom of an egg carton to form the crocodile’s raised eyes.

I cut the top of the egg carton in half.  Placing the two halves together, we hot glued them on for the crocodile’s snout.  The kids used a glue stick to cover the snout with lots of triangles for teeth.

After adding a couple google eyes, they had fun deciding what else to add to their Christmas crocodiles.

They both added a red triangular Santa hat, gluing on cotton balls for trim.

My daughter taped lots of Christmas ribbons in the crocodile’s mouth, like he had eaten some of the Christmas gifts.  They also cut out construction paper Christmas lights to dangle by a ribbon along the Christmas crocodile’s hat.

Our darling crocodiles make a wonderful 3-dimensional decoration on the coat closet door.  What a unique Christmas craft to do with the kids!
