Devil Horned Tomato Caterpillar – Wordless Wednesday

August 16, 2011 by OneMommy

horned tomato caterpillar
It looks innocent enough, except the “horn” on its tail…

damaged tomato plant
But this is what it did to my tomato plant in one day’s time…

horned caterpillar
His punishment? Serving time as the kids’ latest pet…

It used to be our job to pick those off the tomato plants as kids, I never wanted one as a pet, they still make me squeamish….

Yeah, I don’t want to touch it myself…. I pick it up with pencils, etc. when the need arises.

And to think, today I was not happy with my 5 yr old for bringing a wood bug into the house. That thing is crazy looking! Does his pokey end sting or is it just for looks?
I (and my tomatoes) should be thankful we don’t have those guys hanging around ; )

The pokey end is just for looks as far as I can tell. The abuse my kids have given it, if it could sting I’m sure it would have by now!

I remember my collection of insects before, and my first ever collected was just like the one in the first picture
