Doll Clothes from Old T-Shirts

November 12, 2012 by OneMommy

Meet Chocolate Bunny.handmade doll clothes

This particular bunny belongs to my brother’s little girl.  She left it here last weekend.  When she realized it was not in the car with her on the ride home, she was pretty upset.

Thankfully the kids and I were already planning to head down to Grandma and Grandpa’s this week. (Grandpa takes her to and from school most days.)  So she isn’t going to be without Chocolate Bunny for too many days.

I figured as long as bunny was visiting, she might like a new dress.

Keep in mind I am NOT what I would consider talented in the ways of sewing…

To minimize the need for hemming the entire thing, I chose an old t-shirt as the material for the dress.  I used a baby doll shirt as a pattern, tracing it and then giving myself 1/8″ more when I cut it out to allow for seams.  I also flared the bottom of it out a bit more.making a stuffed animal dress

I put the 2 wrong sides together and sewed them together (by hand because I can’t figure out how to thread the antique sewing machine we have).  Then I flipped it the right way and cut a 2 inch slit from the neck down on the back to make it easier to put over bunny’s head.hand made doll clothes

It’s not beautiful, but I was pretty happy with the results.  And I like to think bunny is, too.

Thanks. It’s not much, but I think she’ll like it.

I think it’s perfect and a cute idea. I’d say you did darn well with it.

Thank you. She was so excited when I brought her bunny down this week — and her eyes lit up when she saw the new dress.
