When you are stuck inside with little ones, crafting is one way to keep them occupied in a good way. And February is the time for Valentine’s Day crafts.
These Silly Heart Creatures were inspired by a picture a friend of mine was drawing the other day to entertain her little girl. They are fun to make and are sure to bring a smile.
This simple craft is one of our favorite heart crafts.
Silly Heart Creatures
If you are working with toddlers or young preschoolers, you may want to have a bunch of different sized hearts already cut out. Older children should be able to cut out their own hearts.
You will also want strips of construction paper, approximately one inch wide.
Using one of the large hearts for your character’s body, show your child how they can create a character by adding paper strips for arms and legs and smaller hearts for hands and feet. Then let them get creative!
Folding the strips of paper accordion-style gives your characters a little “spring,” and it is perfect for working those hand muscles and fine motor skills.
Once you have the pieces of the character put together, your child can add fun details.
They might decided to cut out construction paper eyes, hair, and other additions. Or they can add googly eyes and use markers or crayons to add facial details to their heart creatures.
My daughter had fun designing her heart characters. She cut paper strips to make hair and used her markers to give them eye lashes and other fun details.
The next time the weather has you and the kids stuck indoors, give this Silly Heart Creatures craft a try.

Cute! If you have time, would you be willing to link this up to our Sweets For My Sweetie (and any other Valentine-themed post) via Natural and Free? They’d be perfect for it! 🙂 I understand if you don’t have time, but I figured I’d ask. 🙂 Have a great week!
