Packing for Vacation

June 6, 2011 by OneMommy

Ah, empty suit cases,
You sit there and mock me –
“When are you going to pack?” you ask…
Left open on my bed,
Clothes piled everywhere,
Swim suits, towels, and little toys…

I’ve tried to pack for our vacation,
I have all the essential items to keep the kids occupied on the drive
Sitting in the utility room, waiting to be put in the car organizer,
But every time I try to pack the waiting clothes,
Chaos erupts.

“Mommy! He bit me!”
“Mama… Poopoo…”
“Mommy, there’s lotion on the floor…”
“Mommy, where are you?”
“Mommy, I’m hungry…”
It never fails.

I will try again tonight, once they are fast asleep,
and the dog has laid upon the clothes enough to sufficiently cover them with fur —
Although, by then, the list of things needing done will have grown,
And my patience will be gone –
Since as I type this my daughter has brought me the screws that are supposed to be holding up her curtain rod.

I guess I know what is being added to my “to do” list.

It is amazing how much trouble they can get into isn’t it. Plus, did you ever think you’d be saying things like “dont bite your brother” in such a matter-of-fact way! I never did! Packing is hard, and is best done when they are alseep, which is why mommies never sleep till they get in the car!!! Hope all gets done and you have a great trip!

LOL, there are tons of things I say that I never thought I’d say so matter-of-factly… I did finally get their clothes packed, and a suitcase for the hotel we’re stopping at half way through. (Packing when they were in bed definitely was easier!)

Packing, for me, is something that involves concentration. I have to go through in my mind all the things we will be doing and what clothes, shoes, etc. we will need for different things. Distractions would drive me nuts when packing and I would end up forgetting something. Now my kids are older and want to pack themselves!! Unfortunately, I’m a control freak and have to check what they packed b/c I know it won’t be what they need!!LOL 🙂

Yes, I write a long list. I keep adding to it so when I get a chance to pack I can follow my list. I HATE being distracted while I pack; it is driving me crazy! LOL. 2 nights now I’ve waited until they were asleep so I could try to get something done. I just threw a bunch of their clothes on my bed and hoped I had what I needed to pack for them… Now to try to fit it all in the car!
