Painted Sandwich Fun

August 27, 2013 by OneMommy

Sometimes I like to make lunch a little more fun.  When we had letter “P” day our lunch consisted of a variety of foods starting with “P” — peas, peaches, pudding…    We’ve had owl sandwiches and trains.   On other days sandwich cutters make it easy to create fun shapes like stars, dinosaurs, and butterflies.

And lately I’ve learned another fun trick:  sandwich painting!

sandwich painting
This was our 4th of July lunch this year. Blueberries and raspberries frozen in ice cubes made our water a little more fun. I threaded berries onto wood skewers and added star marshmallows for fun “sparklers” to go with our painted flag sandwiches.

Want to do a little painting yourself?

It’s super simple!  You just need a new paintbrush, a little bit of creativity, and a tablespoon of milk with a couple drops of food coloring mixed in.

Just imagine your child’s smile when they open their lunch box to find a simple painted butterfly sandwich!

Our butterfly was cut with a sandwich cutter. Blueberries made up the body; a cherry tomato with blueberries on toothpicks became the head and antennae.

How do you add a little fun to lunch time?

What a great idea! The kids (and husband) would love this. It’s much healthier than decorating cookies too. 🙂

LOL — never thought about it, but definitely healthier than decorating cookies! I may need to let them decorate their own sandwiches soon.

I’d like to say I always try to make them cute… but sometimes they are just normal sandwiches! 🙂 Can’t wait to read your post about lunches!

We love painting our food, especially cookies! But we haven’t done sandwiches before. We’ll have to try it. Thank you for linking up to Mom’s Library, I’ll be featuring you tomorrow at Crystal’s Tiny Treasures.

Mine love it every time I paint — I’m thinking one day I’m going to let them go to town on their own sandwiches! 🙂
