Pictures for the Christmas Card

December 4, 2012 by OneMommy

One thing I love about parenting is being able to start new family traditions with my children, as well as carry on some favorites from when my husband and I were kids.  And Christmastime just calls for family traditions!

I’ve already shared one of our traditions with you.  Today I’m going to share another with you:  pictures of the kids in front of the tree for our family Christmas card.

Here are just a few of the 40+ pics I snapped the other day, trying to capture just the right one (or ones) for the card.

I’m thinking this would be more fun with more lights, but half the strand wasn’t working… Still, I love his face in this!
Yes, I was just having fun pretending to be a real photographer and capturing them from different view points…
Of course you HAVE to include the furry child, too! (What you don’t see is the big bone I am holding over my head as I tell her to “stay” so I can take the picture.)

I have to say this is one of my favorites!
Notice the mini candy cane? That was there reward for a job well done!

So, how many of you snap the kids’ pics each year for the Christmas card?  Any tips you’d like to share to get that perfect picture?

I’ve been pretty lazy as far as Christmas cards go this year, in fact I don’t think I’m going to end up getting any out.

I love the picture with the dog included!

I took the pics, but it took a few more days to get those cards ordered… It’s going to be pushing it this year!

Christmas photos were on the agenda for us yesterday too. I didn’t think to bring the dog in, though. Love the mental image of you holding a bone on your head.

LOL — Next year I should have the husband be there to take a picture of what goes on behind the scenes!

Wow all of those pics are great! what a tough choice! LOve how they are ” tangled” in the lights.

I went with my favorite 5 — I think most of the ones I shared!

Great tradition and great pictures! I love “real” pictures of family and kids so much! I also love professional ones too but there is just something about the quick snapping while memories are made – priceless!

Sometimes it is just easier to keep them home and snap the pics. We tried to do professional ones last year, but the wait was so long (even with an appt. being made) that we wound up cancelling and did them at home.

Uh, we suck. No ‘traditional picture taking’ over here… We now send some kind of holiday video with a mix of pictures from the year. May post it whenever we get to it. Probably around New Year’s Day. 😉 Your kids are sooo adorable!!

I love the idea of pics from the entire year — let’s people “watch them grow” via photos!

I love the pictures. I bet it’s hard to choose which one will make it on the Christmas card or perhaps you can make a collage instead.
