Pond Animal Investigation

May 2, 2012 by OneMommy

We are blessed with a pond that is within walking distance (just next door at Mamaw and Papaw’s house).

Here are a few of our spring animal finds from a recent trip to the pond:

A bucket full of tadpoles
A little crayfish… Papaw caught it to fish with and the pinchers were removed. Peanut thought it was great!

A little frog

As you know, that would have been Heaven on earth for my Bean. Can’t wait to show her these pictures tomorrow when she wakes up. Before she went to sleep she reminded my husband to DVR an episode of River Monsters. It is one of her favorite shows where they learn what fish is invading rivers and causing problems. She loves learning about the fish they are trying to track down.

Oh, I think she would love some of the critters my kids find! Last year they found a hellgrimite (I’m sure I spelled that wrong…). It is in one of their insect books; they played with it for a long time. I had never seen one before…

That reminds me of my childhood, when we live a few meters from a creek. We had a good time exploring the place for the animal inhabitants.

I love this. Such a world out there for children to explore.

I love watching it all from a new perspective as they first get to experience things!
