Pumpkins and Phone Calls

October 29, 2012 by OneMommy

With Halloween just a couple days, today was pumpkin day!

The 5 year-old was much more willing to touch the “pumpkin guts” this year…scooping out tons of pumpkin seeds.  The 3 year-old?  Not so much.

He poked his spoon in it long enough for the picture to be taken, and then asked, “Mommy, you can do mine?”

I was elbow deep in pumpkin guts when the phone rang.

“Whoever it is can just leave a message,” I said.

That’s when little man heard Daddy’s voice on the answering machine.  He raced to the phone, mumbled something, and hung up.

The phone rang again almost immediately.

Once again my husband’s voice came on the machine, and once again little guy raced to the phone.

The third time it happened, I started thinking, “Okay, by now he should realize I can’t get to the phone…”

The phone rang 6 times — and only stopped when Monkey didn’t hang the phone up correctly.

Turns out people at the office were getting a good laugh at little guy’s phone manners, or lack there of when he’d pick up the phone and hang it up just as fast.

After carving out the faces, the kids added some details to their pumpkins with paint (with glitter added to Peanut’s paint).  As I started cleaning up the table afterwards, the phone rang again.  Since I hadn’t gotten to call my husband back yet, I figured it was him.

This time our daughter raced to the phone, picking it up before the answering machine could get it.

After saying hello, she hung up.

Just when I was starting to think that we really needed to work on phone manners, she told me, “It was the 1900’s, they wanted to talk about America…”

(Yes, I think we’ve had plenty of political phone calls, which I usually ignore and say are 800 numbers…)

I love kids.

{Melinda} That is stinkin’ adorable! Love the “1900’s” … I think we’ll all be glad when this election and all those phone calls are finally over. The ones from Daddy are much better!

    Visiting from SITS! 🙂

Yes, have to say the calls have stopped finally — at least until the next election. The ones from Daddy rank much higher!

Yes — she cracks me up sometimes! The best part is they don’t even know what they said is funny.

Too funny about the phone calls. They did a great job on their pumpkins.
