Silly Heart Homemade Valentine

February 2, 2015 by OneMommy

Store bought or homemade Valentines?

That is the question parents ponder this time of year when the kids need to bring Valentines to the school party, or they want to give them to friends and family members.

This year we are having a Valentine’s Day party with several other homeschooling families, and my daughter decided to make these cute Silly Homemade Valentine’s Day cards to share.

She based them off of one of her favorite Valentine’s Day crafts we’ve done.  And they turned out so cute, we just had to share them with you all.

The idea for these Valentines come from our silly heart characters we made to decorate the doors a couple years ago.

Silly Homemade Valentine’s Day Cards

To make your own silly heart character card, cut out a 6 x 3 inch rectangle from thick construction paper or cardstock.    We used fancy scissors to cut ours out.

Cut out a 4 inch tall heart to form your character’s body.

Draw a face on the heart.  You can use wiggly eyes if you have them for extra fun!

To make arms and legs, cut long rectangles from construction paper.

We had our silly heart creature hold a box of stickers.  (We found packs of them at the dollar store.)  You could also have the character hold a heart shaped lollipop or other treat.

Use clear tape to hold your character’s around the treat.

Decide on a message to write on top of your card.  Since we were using stickers, we added, “Valentine, I’m stuck on you!”

You could also use:

  • “Stick with me, Valentine!”
  • “Valentine, you’re sweet!”  — if it’s holding a lollipop or other edible treat

All the kids at our homeschool party loved these silly homemade Valentine’s Day cards.
I hope your child loves making them as much as we did!

I use to be a store bought kind of girl but now I love making cards and gifts. This little guy is so cute!

We bought Valentine’s for classmates last year and made them for family. This will be our first year making them for everyone…
