Spinach and Berry Salad

September 15, 2014 by OneMommy

Over the summer my sister’s family stayed with us for several days.  During their visit my sister introduced us to this delicious spinach and berry salad.  It tastes as good as it looks, and I just had to share it with you!

(And you know what tastes good with salad, a yummy muffin, because muffins are always good!)

Berry salad with spinach and feta cheese

Ingredients for the spinach berry salad:

  • Romaine lettuce
  • Raw spinach
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Strawberries
  • Feta Cheese
  • Poppy seed dressing

Building your healthy berry salad:

To build your salad, first fill the bottom of a large bowl with clean romaine lettuce pieces.  On top of this you will add the raw spinach, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and feta cheese.  (I love how my sister placed them in separate groups — making it a visual feast for the eyes before the salad even hits your plate!)

Poppy seed dressing is the perfect complement to this salad.

If you want a little crunch, you could add sesame seeds.  (My sister’s family usually adds walnuts, but we have nut allergies in our household and opted to stick with just the berries and greens.)

This salad pairs well with a variety of things, but I like it particularly with a chicken dish.

Bon appetit!

I do not like spinach but those berries sure do look good. Makes me want to go to the store and look for some. Guess that’s better than craving ice cream though, right?

Ice cream calls to me at night…but you are right, those berries were very good! I should start keeping them in the fridge to fight off that ice cream at night! 😉

That is really beautiful. And you could arrange all of that in advance, take it to a party (accept many compliments….), and then toss with the dressing. We don’t do walnuts over here either… but maybe pine nuts would be a nice touch?

That is absolutely beautiful and so tasty looking! I love the variety and colors. This could be easily given as a gift and I am sure would be well appreciated.
