Thank You Letters

September 20, 2012 by OneMommy

Happy Thankful Thursday!  Today’s post was inspired once again by Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop.

Remember those Sarcastic Thank You’s???  Well, here are a few real thank you cards I’d like to send out….

***

Washing Machine,

I know I don’t always show you the respect you deserve…  Let’s face it, laundry is NOT my favorite chore.  But I want to take this opportunity to thank you.

Thank you for allowing me clean the spilled food from my children’s clothing with considerable less work and effort than my grandmother had to put in to using her wash and ringer.  Or, for that matter, the mothers before her who would have had to use a scrubbing board.

Thank you for saving important stuffed animals that have gotten in the line of fire of a sick child, and for allowing me to stuff you full of puked on blankets, towels, and clothes, keeping me from having to clean these items by hand.  (Because, honestly, I think quite a bit of it would make it to the trash otherwise….)

As I shove yet another load into you tomorrow, I will take a moment to think of what a blessing you truly are.  And, I might even wipe the built up gunk off of all your crevices, too.

 ***

Microwave Oven,

How did we ever live without you, beloved kitchen appliance?

Instead of having to wait for a kettle of water to boil on the stove each morning, you heat my coffee mug of water in just one minute!

Thank you.

Thank you for allowing me to get that caffeine rush in the morning that much quicker.  You truly help me to be a better mommy — one who is more awake and able to deal with the energetic little ones who greet me each morning.

***

Answering Machine,

I haven’t forgotten you!

Thank you for taking all those important messages I might have otherwise missed when out of the house.

Better yet, thank you for taking all those unwanted messages and phone calls from 1-800 numbers when I check caller-ID and decide not to answer the phone.  (Okay, I admit it, sometimes I let you get calls from places other than 1-800 numbers that I just don’t feel like dealing with at the time….)

***

What every day item would you send a thank you card to?

I would have to say the dishwasher wins the day as far as appliances I am thankful for. I can’t imagine having to wash the mounds of dishes we use every day by hand.

Earlier this week I was extremely thankful for Clorox wipes and paper towels when I had to clean up after the erupting child. It really did make life much easier! The washing machine earned my gratitude as well:-)

On cleaning day I am always thankful for my Swiffer which to me is one of the greatest inventions ever. I love not having to wring anything out and the cleaning goes so much faster than it used to:-)

I was just thinking I should have added the dishwasher! 🙂

Clorox wipes totally should make the list! I love them for wiping down all the toys after someone has been sick.

I couldn’t live without any of the three you mentioned. But I really like the answering machine. I can filter calls (if you know what I mean!).

Oh, yes, I definitely know what you mean…

Thanks — I’m sure I could write these all day to things I seem to take for granted.

I love my washing machine too. Maybe I’ll give her a good rub down tonight.

I love that you called the washer a “her” — how true! They work and work and are so under appreciated!

Let’s see…my coffee maker would definitely be at the top of my list, as well as my pillow. I cannot live without my particular pillow and I pretty much remember that every night 🙂

That’s why I love Thankful Thursday posts! There is enough negative in the world; one day a week I like to focus on the positive.

There is so much to be grateful for! LIke a frozen pizza when dinner isn’t ready because I can’t seem to think of anything to make! Or the vacuum so I don’t have to sweep! Or the wonderful little coffee machine! Geez, we have it so much better than our ancestors! Thanks for the reminder!

Oh, how could I forget frozen pizza and other quick dinner options!?
Yes, we definitely have quite a few things better than our ancestors…

I totally agree with Cindy! I love my dishwasher, since I didn’t have one growing up, and I was without one for many years in all the apartments I lived in! I LOVE my dishwasher!

Growing up my sister broke ours…and blamed it on me. So we didn’t have one either. Got to admit, I love it now! (And, yes, the truth about that dish washer came out years later, when we were both adults.)

Age never matters as long as they are still working! 🙂

My washing machine is magic. Since I have a pup and he likes to shed on all his stuff, I love that I can just toss it all in the wash and VIOLA! It’s clean. 😉

Yes — I have a dog who sheds all over too. I should add the sweeper to my list for picking up all the dog hair….

Mine would definitely be for my bed and indoor plumbing. Thinking about how people had to live before, well, I think we’re truly blessed.

Oh, indoor plumbing definitely! I was just imagining trying to take my little ones out to an outhouse in winter time. Or at night. No fun sounding there.
