Trick-or-Treat! What Will He Be?

October 30, 2011 by OneMommy

I love 2 year olds.

Really.  I do.

We’ve been talking about Halloween all month now, doing all our Halloween crafts and reading a few books.  I was originally planning on having our darling toddler son dress as Bob the Builder.

  1. It’s simple and we already have the materials on hand.
  2. He’s pretty cute dressed ready to build. But after reading several Halloween books, he started saying he wanted to be a ghost.  (Okay, most of our Halloween books show someone dressed as a ghost, so it made sense.)  I figured, easy costume.  I knew he wouldn’t want anything on his head, so no sheet.  I used an old t-shirt of my husband’s and drew on the ghost face.  Figuring a white hooded sweatshirt underneath and he was good to go.

His response when I showed it to him today?

“Don’t like.”

“Okay, Sweetie, what do you want to wear for trick-or-treat?  Do you want to be Bob the Builder?” I asked patiently.

“Hmmm…” he said, drawing it out like he does.  “Car.”

Now I could have panicked.  After all, that is a little harder than making a ghost costume.  But, being as big into cars as he is, I actually bought a Lightning McQueen costume at the end of the season last year for him to wear for dress up.  (Which, by the way, he has only worn once.)

“Do you want to wear this car costume?”

“Don’t like.”

So, I’ve got 3 costumes packed to go to Grandma’s house for trick-or-treating tomorrow.  Your guess is as good as any as to which, if any, he will choose to wear.  Maybe I should dress him as Bob the Builder driving Lightning McQueen?  Or he could be the ghost of Bob the Builder?

What do you think?  What costumes will your kids be wearing this year?

Trick or treating from our house we have a witch with a black cat and a ninja. The witch and the black cat are two different kids who decided to coordinate their outfits and for some reason ninja happens to be the favorite costume for the boys around here. At our Halloween party I think seven of the eight were supposed to be ninjas of some sort….sorry I was a little busy and didn’t pay proper attention to all of them. The one stand out was Captain America. The girls were mostly different. We did have two witches, a black cat, a fairy, and a snow queen.

    They were all very cute…

Sounds like a fun party! We were supposed to go to one this year, but it got cancelled. We might just have to have our own mini party next year.
Love how your 2 girls coordinated their outfits!

I’d go with Bob the Builder driving Lightning McQueen. I cracked up when I read that!! My girls were simple this year…Ash wanted a store bought girl pirate and Bean just wanted new wings to be a fairy (again…). Her’s were ruined in the flood we had 2 weeks after Hurricane Irene.

I thought Bob driving Lightning would be pretty original… But, little guy refused to take off his fuzzy pants to put on the overalls. Actually, he was not happy about the whole costume thing at all until I told him he had to have one to get candy. He finally relented and wore the car.
Girls are so easy… Peanut was just thrilled to be able to have her hair sprayed red to be Ariel.
