Valentine’s Tradition

January 30, 2014 by OneMommy

Last year I started a new Valentine’s tradition with the kids:  Valentine’s Message Hearts.

Hearts on door

The idea is really simple.  Each day before Valentine’s Day, starting on February 1, I cut out a heart for each child.  Then I wrote a little note with a unique reason I love them.

Some of the messages included things like:  I love you because you really take good care of your stuffed babies, I love you because you always think about your brother, and I love you because you like to fish with Papaw.

Each morning they looked forward to finding their heart waiting for them on the kitchen table.  They would ask me to read them the note, and then they carefully hung them up on their doors.   We read through them several times and kept them up way past February.

This year I am looking forward to doing it again.  I’ve already got the hearts cut out, just waiting for those messages of love! paper hearts

Do you have any favorite Valentine’s Day traditions?

I love this idea! What a wonderful tradition for the whole family. I might also keep the hearts to look at some time when those same kids are driving me crazy…reminding me why I love them! 😉

I think this really is our only tradition so far, but the kids do love it!

So sweet and reaffirming to your family. This is indeed a wonderful idea. We don’t have any valentine tradition. Maybe it’s time to start one.

That is such a cute tradition, I may have to do that when my guy is a little older.

I love this idea! My little one is 18 months old, so this year Valentines day was just painting pink hearts and handprint cards for family, but this is a GREAT idea for next year to start a tradition that doesn’t involve candy. Thanks for sharing!

Mine have really enjoyed it the past couple years. I actually kept last year’s hearts and I’m thinking of putting them all together for them somehow.
