Vegetable Stamping

March 21, 2014 by OneMommy

Spring is the perfect time for flowery kid crafts that are bright and cheery.

Get a head start on some bright spring colors with this easy vegetable stamping craft!

preschool craft: vegetable stamping

Stamping with vegetables is a super simple preschooler craft that is perfect for spring.

It can be fun for older kids as well if you let them create their own veggie stamps.  (Remember proper supervision should be used if your child uses a knife to cut their own stamps.)

You may also want to try painting with flowers this spring!

Vegetable Stamping Kids Craft

Before starting the craft with your child, you will need to prepare your vegetables.

Celery stalks are perfect just as they are.

Carrots and radishes are also easy to stamp with.

Slice an end off the radish to make a circle.  Cutting a tic-tac-toe shape in the flat end of the radish will make a simple flower stamp.

You can cut a carrot in half and then use a knife to make small notches in it.

For larger stamps you may want to try half of a potato.

Bright colored paints give this craft an extra spring boost.

We used yellow, lavender, and a bright spring green.  stamping with vegetables

Preschoolers love stamping crafts like this.

You may also want to provide a paint brush so your child can make stems to their vegetable stamped spring flowers.  vegetable stamp art

Your prints look so pretty! I was wondering what you used for the flower when I saw the picture on Facebook. Very cute! My mom used to cut radishes the same way, and then put them in water overnight to make “roses.” They would open up and look very pretty!

Yes! We would put the radishes in water and put them in the fridge over night, too! 🙂 I always loved the rose radishes on Easter and Thanksgiving!

I’ve heard of this before. It sure looks like your children had lots of fun.

    Oh, what a fun idea!
My FIL grows beets in the garden… We may need to borrow a few for stamping!

Never thought of it, but it would be a great way to introduce some new veggies! 🙂
