Viking Sticks and Turkey Beaters

July 14, 2012 by OneMommy

I love the things toddlers and preschoolers say.

Our latest?

What are these two items?things toddlers say

To the average adult there is a stick and a turkey baster in the picture above.  And, pretty much, the stick would be tossed back outside if it were up to me and the turkey baster just gets used to baste the turkey at Thanksgiving….

But to my imaginative 3 year-old son?

It’s no average stick and turkey baster…  Instead it is a Viking Stick and Turkey Beater.  And they have very specific and different jobs.

That Viking Stick ?  He found it when we were walking home from Mamaw and Papaw’s house.  He uses it to scare away and beat up coyotes and wolves, and most importantly, it makes him BRAVE.  (He told me this at least half a dozen times on the way home with it that night.)

And the Turkey Beater ?  Evidently you use that to go out and kill a turkey.  You just aim and “swoosh!”  The air from inside knocks the turkey clean over.  things preschoolers say

And so the Viking Stick has earned a prominent place on our kitchen table, where it is safe from our stick-loving dog.  (That would NOT make a happy 3 year-old!)  And the Turkey Beater  keeps appearing, just in case a turkey walks across they yard one day…

Now, if you will excuse me, we have some coyotes and wolves to fight off with the Viking Stick!

Priceless! Love it. Kids do say the funniest things-great that you are recording it.

Yes, I try to write down at least some of the things they say to share with them when they are older! 🙂

You have to come to our house and bring the Turkey Beater! We have them cutting through our yard every year around this time. They seem to have their babies somewhere in the woods of our neighborhood. My friend sent me a text the other day that had 6 of them walking around on her patio.

That’s too funny! I can just picture them walking around all the houses….
We have to stick to fighting invisible turkeys around here so far…

What a wonderful imagination! I hope the turkeys hide well enough to stay away from a fatal squirt of water!
